Most Meta Ads lead campaigns do not fail because Facebook and Instagram are the wrong place. They fail because of a handful of ordinary mistakes: too little budget to learn from, a poor landing page, slow follow-up and weak tracking. All of them can be fixed, and most can be spotted in a single afternoon.
Spreading the budget too thin
A new campaign needs time and data to find out who responds. If you split a small budget across many ads and audiences, none of them gets enough traffic to tell you anything. You end up judging an ad on a handful of clicks.
- Start with fewer audiences and a few ad variations.
- Give each one enough spend to show a pattern before you judge it.
- Do not change everything every few days. Change one thing, then wait.
Start small, but not so small that nothing can be learned. Scale only what has brought real enquiries.
Sending everyone to the homepage
A homepage tries to speak to every visitor. Someone who clicked an ad about one offer should land on a page about that offer, with one clear action.
- Match the page to the ad. Same promise, same wording, same look.
- Keep one action: a form, a call or a message.
- Ask only for what you need. Every extra field loses some people.
- Check the page on a phone first. Most ad clicks come from phones.
Lead forms inside Facebook and Instagram are another option. They are quick to fill, though the people who fill them may be less committed. Test both and compare.
Nobody follows up on the leads
This is the most expensive mistake. A lead is warmest in the first minutes. If it sits in a spreadsheet or an inbox until someone has time, the person has moved on, or has already spoken to someone else.
- Decide who owns each lead the moment it arrives.
- Reply fast, even if only to confirm and say when you will call.
- Record what happened to each lead, so you know which ones became customers.
Sending leads straight into a CRM or a WhatsApp conversation removes the copy-and-paste step. Without it, speed depends on someone remembering to check.
Watching vanity numbers
Reach, likes and cheap clicks feel good. They do not pay bills. A campaign with a low cost per click can still bring no customers at all.
| Looks good | Better to ask |
|---|---|
| Many likes and views | How many real enquiries came in? |
| Low cost per click | What did each enquiry cost? |
| High reach | How many enquiries became customers? |
Before you launch, agree what an enquiry is worth to you. Then you can say whether a campaign is working.
Weak or missing tracking
If you cannot connect an enquiry back to the campaign that brought it, you are guessing. Set up tracking before you spend, not after.
- Track form submissions and calls or messages as conversions.
- Name campaigns and ads clearly, so reports make sense months later.
- Check that a test lead actually shows up where you expect it.
- Keep ownership of your own ad account, audiences and data.
Expecting a guaranteed number
Results depend on your offer, your price and your market. Nobody can honestly promise a number of leads or sales. Be wary of anyone who does. A sensible plan agrees goals, tests carefully and reports honestly on what happened.
Where Teapot Techies fits
We plan, run and review campaigns in your own ad account, and set up tracking, lead forms and landing pages so you can see what each campaign brings. Leads can go to your CRM or WhatsApp so your team can respond quickly. See Meta Ads management and our wider marketing and lead generation work. We do not guarantee a number of leads, and ad spend is paid to Meta separately.
